One of the greatest things we have is history and its significance upon our present state. I have had many feelings for a long time and certainly everyone is allowed their own opinions. I think we are losing a great deal of what so many have fought and died for and we need to remember that Empires of the past have a great effect upon our present.
While reading through many materials I found this and it struck me in my heart, it made me feel sad because I see us drifting away from what made us strong and it made me think...what are we throwing away? What are we willing to lose?
No Empire last forever, history has taught us that we are prisoners of our own making. We see the sign post and yet we prefer to look away distracted by whatever catches our attention. I am not here to sermonize or try to make anyone see my point of view. Its more than just a political view or statement its our future and that of the children we raise within our country. What are leaving behind? More than just morality, more than economical statutes, we are leaving behind the freedoms and liberty that once blessed immigrants that came to this country looking for a new life.
Is it too late or do we still have have burning desire to live in a world that most consider a place where dreams and hard work can achieve goals and a better future.
I will leave that to your own personal opinion. I spoke to more than one person about this and they replied, "that's good I hope this country gets buried...I am going to laugh when it falls! " These were fellow citizens of the USA, and I wondered, have we become that jaded that unmindful of what we will leave behind us for future generations? Please read, judge and deem what you think is the future of our country.

"The events that led up to the fall of Imperial Rome can be traced to several factors.
1. Agriculture declined as farmers found it unprofitable to plant, flocking instead to the cities, where they became wards of the state.
2. Heavy taxes to support wars left citizens with less to spend, causing businesses to fold; hence, prosperity declined.
3. Jobless men could no longer afford matrimony, and this factor, coupled with a high abortion rate, resulted in a falling birth rate.
4. Political disinterest on the part of the citizenry led to poor leadership.
5. The moral fabric of the society began to tear apart as degenerating spectacles in the arena occupied the minds of the unemployed masses.
Finally, Rome became dependent on foreigners, often subjugated peoples, to defend its borders and to fight its wars as fewer Romans were available for conscription. Foreigners obviously had no true ties to the motherland."

And then they will have to live in a much worse world.

But around 1700, there was a 2.2°C rise in just 36 years.
Unless there is a geological reason for that warming, it is pretty much certain that a 36 year trend would have had to have been global in nature. Energy has a way of being redistributed.
In the past, our "morality" included separating White Americans from Black Americans. It included not allowing women, African-Americans or Native-Americans to vote. There were no laws governing "stalking" or "hate crimes."
It forced people in public places to engage in state sponsored religion (the Christian religion) and never once considered that perhaps (in a country that sees everyone equally) there were Jews, or Buddhists or Muslims or Native Americans with their own prayers and their own way of worship.
You ARE right that all empires fail, but they typically fail because of conservatism - NOT wanting to change in a changing world results in stagnation which rots a body from within. A country in constant flux is always questioning the validity of its beliefs - it's when we believe we know it all that we truly begin to fail.

No one party speaks for me exclusively. I'm Pro-Choice, but also Pro-Death Penalty. I believe in a strong military, but I also believe George W. Bush should be tried as a war criminal for the invasion of Iraq. I'm pro-military and pro-Democracy, but I don't believe we have the right to force our ideals on other countries. I'm pro-gun control, but an avid gun owner.
You see, there are just too many sides to the political fence for any one candidate (or any two parties) to fit my needs. Voting in America has become less the choosing the best man for the job and more choosing the lesser of two evils. I do, however, think that Obama is a really refreshing change of pace (maybe because he can speak in complete sentences) though and I'm hopeful that he'll be able to accomplish something good.

I think President Obama, has so much on his plate its overwhelming. I hope that he can make a positive change, because its needed. I hope for the best for our nation because we are so diverse its not possible to satisfy every single person in the USA individually. But hopefully there is a median where all can have a good quality of life , meeting the basics and striving for what is best.

His Presidency has certainly brought out the worst in some Americans. I read there is a gun store owner in Washington state who is holding a raffle (for an EXPENSIVE shotgun) for the person who closest guesses the date Obama will be assassinated. Racists sicken me and it's no secret that the conservatives hold the dubious honor of playing host to most of them.
